Presence in the Strait
Abundant coastal winter visitor (>800),, with some summer visitors.
Identification
Winter plumage similar to that of Sanderling. Easily recognised in summer plumage on account of its black belly and reddish-brown back. In flight, white wing bars and black central band from back through tail.
Movements
Peaks in 2nd hf. April and 1st hf. September.
Ring recoveries
Sweden (14) and United Kingdom (2).
