Presence in the Strait
Rare resident located on coastal cliffs of Gibraltar (6-8 pairs). This colony, which belongs to the Mediterranean sub-species P. a. desmarestii, was formed at the beginning of the 20th Century, a period when it was very common in the whole area.
Identification
Smaller than the Cormorant, glossy greenish-black, with upturned crest during the breeding season. Juveniles are generally brown. Rarely seen flying over land.
Movements
