Presence in the Strait

Common resident of open areas with scrub and scattered trees.

Identification

Males have a black eye-stripe, throat and chin, and a yellow band over and under their eyes. The rest of the body has a mixture of green and brown tones. As in all buntings, females are less colourful than males, lacking such distinct head markings. In flight, long tail with white outer tail feathers and olive-grey rump.

Movements

Prenuptial peaks in 2nd hf. March and postnuptial in 2nd hf. September and October.
