Presence in the Strait
Abundant resident in open areas with scrub.
Identification
Grey upperparts and pale underparts; red eye ring, white throat and white outer tail feathers. Males have black head and grey flanks. Females are more brown above, with grey head and buff-brown flanks. Juveniles are like females but with brown head.
Movements
Sedentary, although ringing results reveal variations in numbers throughout the year (see graph), with peak movements in the postnuptial period, mainly comprising juveniles. Postnuptial peak in 2nd hf. September.
