Common winter visitor to wet regions.

Identification

Brownish-grey bird with a long bill, pale supercilium and dark loral stripe. Extremely timid. When flushed, flies in zigzag and emits a rasping call. Feeds in boggy areas.

Movements

Peaks in 1st hf. March and 2nd hf. October.

Ring recoveries

Germany (3), France (2), Czech Republic (2), Belgium (1), Denmark (1), Poland (1), United Kingdom (1), Sweden (1) and Spain (1).
