Presence in the Strait
Accidental. Four records at Gibraltar: 14.04.66 (1), 23.04.89 (1), 13.05.89 (4) and 11.09.95 (1).
Identification
Males appear pinkish in summer plumage, with pale red forehead and bill. Winter plumage is more subdued, pale ochre bill but still with pinkish rump. Females are similar to winter males. Juveniles are more pale grey-brown. The nearest breeding areas are in Morocco and Almeria and Murcia in Spain.
