Presence in the Strait
Rare winter visitor to wetlands. From 1980 it has wintered for eight years intermittently but never in large numbers (<33). It is more regular as a migrant.
Identification
Large and robust, with uniform greyish-brown colouring. Orange bill and pink legs. Often fly in a “V” formation with prominent pale grey forewings.
Movements
Usually at the start of October to the beginning of February, but there are late records, as late as May. Peaks in 1st hf. November and 2nd hf. January.

Denmark (10), Sweden (10), Norway (4), Poland (4), Germany (2) and Czech Republic (1).
