Occasional winter visitor to wetlands. Six isolated records: on 2.02.91, 27.11.93 and 19.01.02 at the River Guadiaro estuary; on the marshes at the Marismas del Palmones on 27.03.88 and 8.01.89, and at Los Lances beach on 7.01.86 and 11.01.97.
Identification
Similar to the Snipe, but smaller, with a shorter bill. In flight, pointed tail, dark back with yellowish stripes. Very timid habits, tends to remain perfectly still and, when flushed, flight is usually short. Originates from Scandinavia and Northern Russia.

One bird ringed on 14.09.68 in Norway was controlled in Cadiz on 8.12.68, some 2,983 Km. distant.
