Abundant resident in open areas.

Identification

Large, greyish-brown and heavily streaked with upperparts darker than underparts. Long tail lacking white that is typical in buntings. During the breeding season, males choose prominent perches such as posts, cables and wirefences to sing and to mark their territory. During the breeding season, males perform short flights with dangling legs.

Déplacements

Sedentary with short-distance and altitudinal movements, abandoning their breeding areas that are severe in winter, for meadows and coastal areas. Prenuptial migration from February to May with peaks in 2nd hf. March. Postnuptial migration from August to November with peaks in 2nd hf. October.
