Abundant resident in woodlands and scrub.
Identification
The largest of the finches; yellowish-green, robust appearance and heavy bill. Males are more colourful than females, bright yellowish-green breast and belly, yellow on tail and wings that is more visible in flight. The tail is black and yellow, forming an inverted black “T” pattern. Juveniles are browner with streaks on underparts and back. With a bird in the hand, sex can be determined by extent of yellow on tail.
Déplacements
Prenuptial peaks in April and postnuptial in 2nd hf. October.
