Rare migrant to coastal wetlands and coasts.
Identification
Larger than a Teal, with pale grey wings in flight. Male has a broad white supercilium and black and white scapulars. Females and juveniles have a pale creamy throat and a striped head pattern: dark eye-stripe and pale supercilium and spot at base of the bill.
Déplacements
Trans-Saharan migrant. Normally appears in the area during prenuptial migration between February and April, 84% of the birds concentrated in 1st hf. March. Postnuptial migration is almost nonexistent, with observation of single birds in the River Guadiaro estuary in 2nd hf. August (2 birds) and 1st hf. September (1 bird).
